Blue Microprinting– Throughout the background of the Michigan driver’s license, there is blue and yellow guilloche lacing. It covers the majority of the card and is very thin. The intricacy of the lacing is challenging to replicate if a card maker’s printer is old, but we have new printers that can easily handle this level of detail.

DUPLICATE PHOTO OVERLAP– There is a ghost image on the front of the Michigan driver’s license, and it is colored in black and white. The ID is underneath the lacing, and you can see the lace lines on top of it. The ghost ID has the photo’s background as well.
RAISED DOB – The date of birth above the ghost image has touchable letters and numbers. They can be felt when a person’s fingertips slide over the text. The Michigan driver’s license has both the 1D and 2D barcodes and the magnetic stripe. When we create our IDs, we make sure that each of these elements is scannable, and the information presented matches the front of the card.
Special MICHIGAN Driver’s License Features – Blue bridge on the top of the card.
There is a large blue bridge spanning from the right to the left side at the top of the card. This bridge is the Mackinac Bridge. The blue color that creates the bridge is not the same blue as the identification text below it.

Below the full photo ID, there is one “Michigan,” and the other is located on the bottom right-hand corner. These two words are made with tricolor ink that allows the holder to see them when they are angled in certain positions.
MICHIGAN STATE SEAL
A large state seal is printed in UV ink on the front of the Michigan ID and Driver’s license. It is close to the middle of the card and directly printed over the HEIGHT text.

Laser-engraved letters on the card’s front side – The letters MICH are printed with a laser on the Michigan fake ID cards, but they are not viewable in plain sight. An RFID chip in the driver’s license – All Michigan Driver’s licenses now have an RFID that holds a reference number to improve the process of crossing the border to Canada and Mexico. This new feature is to help verify your identity at a border.

How to spot a fake Michigan ID
The UV features are not printed correctly or are missing
Black lights are used to check on UV images in nightclubs and bars. If the UV image doesn’t match the one on the state-issued card or it is missing entirely, the ID checker will know it is fake. One other problem with a UV image is that if they are printed with too much ink, they can be visible without a blacklight.
The background image does not look not the correct design
On the license, the entire background is covered in guilloche lacing. Because of its very thin layered design, the background is hard to replicate. If the lines look off or the other symbols are not placed correctly, then it is a poorly made fake ID.
The edges of the Driver’s license are peeling
If there are many images and types of ink are used on an ID, then fake card makers will have to add more layers on their cards. This might cause the fake card to become thicker than the state-issued one, and it will peel at the edges, especially if it’s not laminated correctly. The photo ID could peel as well if it were not placed down correctly.
What are Michigan Laws Regarding Fake IDs?
Bartenders and bouncers are granted by law the ability to confiscate fake IDs whenever they encounter them, so any underage person who is using a fake ID needs to make sure their card is practically indistinguishable from the state-issued one.
Even though people who confiscate IDs can report them to the police, doing this is more hassle than it’s worth. It is common for ID checkers to collect the ID and add it to their pile of fake IDs. So if you are IDs confiscated, you don’t have to be paranoid that the cops are coming for you.
However, if you’re in East Lansing, Michigan, then bouncers are not a problem for you. You will be pleased to learn that anyone who is underage can find a place where they don’t check IDs, or the bouncer doesn’t care. Students of local universities have been known to bribe bouncers if they discover that their card is fake, and the bouncers will let them into the night club or bar.
